Who we are

This game is part of hardnews.nl. The controller is Hard News, based in Eindhoven, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK) under number 72601655. Questions? Mail info@hardnews.nl.

This policy covers this game only. The rest of hardnews.nl is covered by the website's own privacy policy.

No accounts

You can play without an account. We ask for no name, no e-mail address and no password. So there is no profile we keep on you either.

Server logs

Our hosting records standard technical data, including your IP address, the time, the page requested and your browser type. We use those logs solely to keep the game running, to fix failures and to prevent abuse (for example limiting the number of score submissions per IP address). We keep them for as short a time as is technically necessary.

Leaderboard

If you submit a score, we store a self-chosen nickname along with your score, the number of rounds and the date. That leaderboard is publicly visible to everyone who plays the game. So pick a nickname that isn't your real name, and no data that can be traced back to you. Want an entry removed? Mail info@hardnews.nl.

Storage in your browser

The game stores functional data in your own browser: your game state, your streak, whether audio has been unlocked and your choice about analytics. No marketing cookies.

Google (only with your consent)

When you first open the game you choose per purpose what Google may do. Until you choose, nothing is loaded from Google at all. There are two separate purposes, and you can accept one without the other.

1. Measurement. With this consent we use Google Analytics 4 to see how the game is played: pages viewed, runs started and finished, scores submitted, challenge links created and opened, an approximate location derived from your IP address, and device and browser information. That data is processed by Google and retained according to Google Analytics 4's default retention period. We never send your nickname or any other free text to Google.

2. Advertising. With this consent we additionally enable Google's advertising features, including Google Signals. Your usage of the game is then shared with Google for cross-device insights, demographic and interest reporting, audience insights and advertising features. The recipient of that data is Google (Google Ireland Limited). Google may combine this data with the Google account you are signed in to, depending on your own Google account settings. See Google's privacy policy and how Google uses data from sites that use its services. Without this consent no advertising data is sent and Google Signals stays off.

You can change or withdraw either purpose separately at any time with the “Cookie preferences” link in the footer. Withdrawing stops any further data being sent for that purpose immediately.

Third parties

Audio and artwork load from Deezer. When you play, your browser loads those previews and images from Deezer, and in doing so Deezer sees technical data such as your IP address. Deezer's own privacy policy applies to that: deezer.com/legal/personal-datas.

Your rights

You have the right to access and to deletion of data relating to you. Send your request to info@hardnews.nl. Because we have no accounts, we can usually only link a request to a specific score submission.

Minors

We do not knowingly collect data from people under 18 without the consent of a parent or guardian. Think this has happened anyway? Mail us and we will delete it.

Changes

We may amend this privacy policy. Changes are published on this page.
